Whitsunday Dive Adventures, THE Scuba Dive Academy

Open Doors you have only imagined.

As a PADI Professional, you do things others only dream of. Whether you work in a local Dive Centre, at a Resort or on a Live-Aboard dive boat, the adventure of a lifetime is yours for the taking.

Imagine a job where you actually look forward to heading off to work in the morning. Sailing into incredible sunsets could be the rule, not the exception, especially if you work in a tropical dive destination.

The commute to work could be as easy as a ten-minute boat ride and work becomes an adventure itself.

If you set your sights close to home and aspire at a local dive centre, you teach people how to dive and guide trips to exotic dive destinations.

There’s a sense of pride sharing something you are passionate about. You help others enrich their lives by experiencing the adventure of diving.

Why PADI, Why Whitsunday Dive Adventures Scuba Dive Academy?

Worldwide, more people learn to dive using the PADI System of Diver Education than with any other recreational scuba program. The PADI system allows divers to progress at their own pace and encourages them to take continuing education programs that enhance their Participation, Enjoyment and Safety.

As a PADI PRO, you are one of the most sought-after Scuba Dive Professionals on the planet. And, with more than 6000 PADI Dive Centres and Resorts worldwide, the world is your office – and your playground.

PADI INSTRUCTORS and the PADI System of Diver Education are the benchmarks against which all other Instructors and certification organisations are measured.

Whitsunday Dive Adventures’ Scuba Dive Academy Is the ONLY 5* Instructor Development Dive Resort in the Whitsundays and has the privilege to have the legendary Tony Fontes as their PADI Course Director. Tony is probably THE most experienced PADI Course Director in Australia. A large percentage of the Australian PADI Instructors did their IDC (Instructor Development Course) with Tony. After all these years Tony’s passing rate for Instructors he takes to the IE (Instructor Examination) is still 100%!

We understand you have at least a thousand questions about the IDC and the IE. There is nothing to hide about either of them so we will answer all your questions. Some questions are asked all the time, so we tried to answer them already here for you. When your question is not in the list, don’t hesitate to drop us a message. We will answer as soon as possible!

  1. Can I fail an IDC?
  2. Is there extra time to prepare for the IDC?
  3. What happens if I fail the Instructor Exam?
  4. What is involved in the IDC?
  5. Which part of the IE is most often failed?
Can I fail an IDC?

No, because it’s an instructor development course. You will be evaluated, of course, but you will be trained until you reach the level  to pass your Instructor Examination IE without difficulties.

The Instructor Development Course IDC is like other PADI dive courses – performance based. So you will feel at ease to learn by making mistakes. Tony Fontes, our  PADI Course Director and our GoPro Team are there to help you reach your goal, no matter what.

Is there extra time to prepare for the IDC?

Absolutely! The Whitsunday Dive Adventures IDC includes an IDC prep Course prior to the start of each Instructor Development Course IDC. Tony Fontes, our Course Director and our GoPro team is also at your disposal any time during the IDC to help you with areas in which you may need more attention, to ensure you are fully prepared for the Instructor Exam IE.

What happens if I fail the Instructor Exam?

Failure is not an option. PADI’s performance-based system can’t be failed – instead you remain uncertified until you can demonstrate the level of knowledge and skill that you are evaluated for during the Instructor Exam – this is what the IDC prepares you for.

But you will be happy to know that through guidance and solid preparation, Whitsunday Dive Adventures and Tony Fontes have a 100% success rate – and we can do the same for you.

What is involved in the IDC?

During the 11 days of the Instructor Development Course IDC you are looking at about 80-90 hours of training activities, 35 of which will be presentations conducted by Tony Fontes, our PADI Course Director or by our PADI Master Instructors or PADI IDC Staff Instructors.

Your will learn about the PADI System of Diver Eduction and how to teach it yourself.

You will develop a minimum of 12 teaching presentation yourself, 4 in our class room, 4 in confined water and 4 in open water (or more if you need to get more practice)

Which part of the IE is most often failed?

PADI statistics show it’s the dive theory exams. However, they are similar to the Divemaster Final Exams. Remember those? You had to pass them to get to the IDC. Our GoPro team will walk you through the 5 theories of diving again to make sure they’re hot and fresh in memory and we will repeat the Divemaster Exams (new and old versions) again and again during the IDC Prep Course.
